Востраў Бярэзіна (руск.: Березина, англ.: Berezina) або востраў Грынвіч (англ.: Greenwich) — востраў у складзе Паўднёвых Шэтландскіх астравоў. Агульная плошча сушы — 142,7 км².

Гісторыя

Дакладная дата адкрыцця вострава не вызначаная. Мяркуецца, што ён мог быць вядомы ўжо ў канцы XVI — пачатку XVII ст. іспанскім мараплаўцам. У 1821 гадзе востраў быў заўважаны амерыканскім капітанам Дж. Шэфілдам і названы Грынвіч. Праз некалькі месяцаў незалежна ад амерыканца востраў быў нанава адкрыты і картаграфаваны расійскай экспедыцыяй на чале з Ф. Белінсгаўзенам і атрымаў назву Бярэзіна ў гонар падзей 1812 г.

У канцы XIX — першай палове ХХ стагоддзя Бярэзіну наведвалі кітабоі і паляўнічыя на ластаногіх. Афіцыйна свае правы на востраў прад’яўлялі Вялікабрытанія i Аргенціна. Акрамя таго, на яго могуць прэтэндаваць Расія і ЗША. Аднак паводле дагавору 1961 года ён, як і іншыя Паўднёвыя Шэтландскія астравы, застаецца свабодным ад суверэнітэту любой дзяржавы.

У 2004—2005 гадах даследаваўся балгарскай навуковай экспедыцыяй.

Прырода

Востраў мае вулканічнае паходжанне. Значную частку займаюць скалістыя ўзвышшы, пакрытыя ледавіком. Найвышэйшымі з’яўляюцца Брэзнікаўскія вяршыні на паўднёва-ўсходняй ускраіне (да 625 м).

Клімат прахалодны антарктычны. Раслінны свет бедны, характэрны для антарктычнай тундры. Лежбішчы ластаногіх, калоніі марскіх птушак.

Насельніцтва

Сталага насельніцтва няма, хаця на паўночным усходзе працуе чылійская палярная станцыя Артура Прат, а на поўначы — эквадорская станцыя Педрэ Вісентэ Мальданада.
