Şah İsmayıl — Bəstəkar Müslüm Maqomayevin eyniadlı Azərbaycan dastanı əsasında yazdığı opera[1].

Bəstəkar əsəri 1916-cı ildə eynadlı Azərbaycan dastanı əsasında yazıb, ilk dəfə tamaşaya 1919-cu ildə qoyub. Əsər 1925-ci ildə və sonrakı illərdə, müəllifin vəfatınadək (1937), ciddi libretto və musiqi dəyişikliklərinə məruz qalıb. Librettonun ilkin müəllifi Mirzə Qədir İsmayılzadədir ("Vüsaqi", Mikayıl Müşfiqin atası) olub, sonradan Məmməd Səid Ordubadi tərəfindən dəyişilib.[2][3]

Operanın sujetinin əsasını Səfəvi Dövlətinin banisi Şah İsmayıl (XV–XVI) haqqında eyniadlı dastanın variantlarından biri təşkil edir. Birinci Şah İsmayıl, Xətai təxəllüsü ilə istedadlı sərkərdə və şair kimi şöhrət qazanmışdır. Onun şəxsiyyəti zaman ötdükcə xalqın təsəvvüründə ideallaşdırılmış və əfsanəyə çevrilmişdir. Operanın librettosunda Şah İsmayılın taxt-tac uğrunda mübarizəsi əks olunmuşdur. Müəllim mirzə Qədir İsmayılov tərəfindən yazılmış operanın librettosunu bəstəkar sonralar yenidən işləmişdir.

Şah İsmayıl dastanı

Bu məhəbbət dastanının 10-a yaxın variantı toplanmışdır. Bəzi mülahizələrə görə, dastan I Şah İsmayılın adı ilə bağlı yaranmışdır. Burada Şah İsmayılın Gülzara aşiq olması, bir sıra macəralardan sonra ona qovuşması, atasının taxtına keçməsi və ədalətli hökmdar olması təcəssüm olunur. Dastanda qəhrəmanlıq motivləri də öz əksini tapmış, Ərəbzəngi kimi cəngavər qadın obrazı verilmişdir.[4]
