David Brüster (11.12.1781, Roksbro qraflığı, Cedboro – 10.2.1868, Melroz yaxınlığında Allerbi) — ingilis fiziki, London Kral Cəmiyyətinin üzvü (1815), Peterburq Elmlər Akademiyasının əcnəbi fəxri üzvü[1]

Həyatı

Edinburq Universitetində oxumuşdur. 1838– 59-cu illərdə Sent-Andrusda kolleclərin rəhbəri və universitetin professoru, sonra Edinburqda universitet professoru olmuşdur. 1849-cu ildən Britaniya elmlərin inkişafı assosiasiyasının prezidenti idi.

Fəaliyyəti

Əsas elmi əsərləri fiziki və tətbiqi optikaya, elmin tarixinə həsr olunmuşdur. Biroxlu və ikioxlu kristallarda işığın xromatik polyarlaşmasının təsvirini vermişdir (1813– 14). 1815-ci ildə dairəvi pol yarlaşmanı kəşf etmiş və əks olunma (qayıtma) zamanı işığın polyarlaşmasını tədqiq edərək, Brüster qanununu müəyyən etmişdir. Süni anizotrop mühitlərdə şüanın ikiqat sınması hadisəsini kəşf etmişdir. Mayaklar üçün linzalar quraşdırmış, kaleydoskop ixtira etmiş (1816) və stereoskopu təkmilləşdirmişdir. İ. Nyutonun bioqrafiyasının müəllifidir.
