Llamense metales[1] los elementos químicos que puen formar cationes y enllaces iónicos. Los metales constituyen un de los grupos principales d'elementos, xunto colos non metales, semimetales y gases nobles. Na tabla periódica, los elementos que van en diagonal, del boru al poloniu considerense semimetales, los que tan a la izquierda son los metales, y los qu'apaecen a la drecha son los non metales.
