Between 1965 and 1969, he was chief commander of the Southern Command.[2] During his military career, he led the Israeli offensive on the Egyptian forces in Sinai during the Six-Day War. Although the ground campaign was very successful, his subordinated divisional commanders, generals Israel Tal, Avraham Yoffe and Ariel Sharon, received more praise than he.
Death
Gavish died on 3 October 2024, at the age of 99.[3] He was the last surviving Israeli senior commander from 1967 war.[4]
