Plot
Shoaib, a taxi driver, is living with his mentally unstable mother. One night Manya, a local gangster working under Acid Tai, leaves a jacket, containing drugs worth Rs. 20 Lakhs with him. He keeps the jacket at his home and goes to meet his girlfriend Lucky, a waitress at the Bombay Coffee House, when fire breaks at his home.
Upon reaching home, he finds the jacket missing. Manya threatens him to return him the jacket at any cost, failing to which would result in his mother’s death. He picks Lucky from her Café and discovers an eight-year-old boy in his car. Lucky informs him that a customer named Aakash had left him until he returns.
Akash, a pilot, lives with his wife Tara and son Parth. One day while dropping his son to school, he discovers his wife with another man and starts following her. She, along with her supposed boyfriend, checks in The Plaza Hotel. Akash, leaves Parth with Lucky and goes to the hotel to catch her red-handed. When he breaks into her room, Tara informs him that she loves Javed and will soon marry him. When he returns to Bombay Coffee House, he learns that Lucky has escaped with his son. Aakash and Tara, assumes that she has kidnapped their son.
When Shoaib reaches home, Manya comes and call Acid Tai to handle him. When she is about to kill Lucky and his mother, Shoaib tries to save them by showing Parth whose rich parent would pay the price.
Acid Tai asks Shoaib to ask Rs 2 Crores as Ranson, which he does. Akash informs Waghmare, who is a suspended officer. He asked for Rs. 25 Lakhs to help him and also sees this as an chance to get back his job.
The makers of the film arranged a Muhurat puja for the team a week ahead of filming.[7] The principal photography of the film started in mid-October 2021 in Mumbai.[8] The climax of the film was shot in November 2021 in the suburbs of Mumbai.[9]
In December 2022, it was announced that the film was heading for a streaming release on an OTT platform in 2023.[13] It premiered on JioCinema on 6 September 2024.[14]
Reception
Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express gave 1.5 stars out of 5 and said that "The execution of this film sticks to the over-familiar lane populated by smart-talking goons, mothers doused in misery, overwrought wives and girl-friends, corrupt cops, ransom calls and shoot-outs."[15]
A critic from Bollywood Hungama gave 2.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "Visfot has its share of engaging and tense moments and some fine performances. However, there are too many loose ends in the first half, so the film turns out to be an average entertainer."[16]
Rishabh Suri of Hindustan Times stated in his review that "Kookie Gulati's drama, ends up as a whimper instead of a banging time at the movies."[17]
Archika Khurana of The Times of India rated 2.5 stars out of 5 and said "Visfot struggles with uneven pacing and a diluted climax, its strong performances and chaotic, tension-filled narrative offer enough thrills to keep viewers engaged. With tighter execution, it could have been a more unforgettable experience."[18]
Devesh Sharma of Filmfare gave 3.5 stars out of 5 and stated that "Visfot is a crime drama with an emotional core. The engaging story is marred by faulty execution."[19]
