Hi Ravenpuff
Dank referred me to you with a query. Occasionally when writing a draft TFA blurb it is appropriate to link to a section within an article. Eg, looking at my list of current drafts, Manned Orbiting Laboratory has Gemini spacecraft link to Project Gemini#Spacecraft. Is this a problem? Are there any do's and don't's around it?
Thanks

- Hi Gog the Mild, I don't think there's a hard-and-fast rule about section linking, and using it in TFA is definitely not a problem where appropriate. That said, as linking to an article as a whole would be more useful for readers to grasp a broader outline of the topic at hand, I would generally only make a section link if there's a good reason not to link to the article as a whole (e.g. if it wouldn't be suitable to have "Gemini spacecraft", or if Project Gemini is already linked to from elsewhere in the TFA blurb). However, I think the "Gemini spacecraft" link isn't unsuitable per se, and I wouldn't mind it staying in the draft blurb.
- Additionally, as per WP:MPNOREDIRECT, we shouldn't be linking to the section via a redirect, although the draft blurb you linked to already seems to be fine in this respect. I note that MPNOREDIRECT does say that Main Page section link redirects shouldn't be bypassed as standard, but this seems to defeat the purpose of us bypassing redirects on the Main Page anyway, so I'd still suggest that you pipe out the section link. These are of course only my opinions on section linking – as long as you follow the relevant guidelines, I think you should be perfectly fine. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 19:28, 1 December 2020 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-12-01T19:28:00.000Z","author":"Ravenpuff","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Ravenpuff-2020-12-01T19:28:00.000Z-Gog_the_Mild-2020-12-01T18:09:00.000Z","replies":["c-Gog_the_Mild-2020-12-01T19:35:00.000Z-Ravenpuff-2020-12-01T19:28:00.000Z"],"displayName":"RAVENPVFF"}}-->
- Cheers Ravenpuff, I suspected as much, but thought it best to check. And yes, I spotted the redirect in the original article and corrected it in the draft blurb. Dan has drummed WP:MPNOREDIRECT into me! Hi. Just a minor thing about your edit to the Max Crabtree hook in DYK prep 2, professional wrestling isn't hyphenated so could I ask if you could turn that dash back into a space please? - @The C of E: I decided to hyphenate it to avoid potential ambiguity (see WP:HYPHEN) – Crabtree is a promoter of professional wrestling, not a wrestling promoter who's professional. That said, I'll of course undo the change if you don't think that it's beneficial. Would you like to add slots for 2022 to the POTD archive page? I have been trying to find out how to do it and see great scope for getting it wrong, whereas you can probably easily work out how the year should be added. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:13, 27 December 2020 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-12-27T11:13:00.000Z","author":"Cwmhiraeth","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Cwmhiraeth-2020-12-27T11:13:00.000Z-Picture_of_the_Day","replies":["c-Ravenpuff-2020-12-28T16:58:00.000Z-Cwmhiraeth-2020-12-27T11:13:00.000Z"]}}-->
- @Cwmhiraeth: I've managed to create the individual archive subpages for each month (January 2022 to December 2022) – this is most easily done by copying the source of a previous year's subpage and changing the years accordingly – as well as the corresponding category pages. Perhaps it might be worth adding a section to POTD guidelines page outlining how to do this.
- Regarding the links at the top and bottom of POTD archive pages: there's a bit of code at Template:POTDArchiveLinks that will automatically display the links to the 2022 subpages but only from December 2021 onwards. Now that these subpages have already been created, do you think that we should just display the links now? — RAVENPVFF · talk · 16:58, 28 December 2020 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-12-28T16:58:00.000Z","author":"Ravenpuff","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Ravenpuff-2020-12-28T16:58:00.000Z-Cwmhiraeth-2020-12-27T11:13:00.000Z","replies":["c-Cwmhiraeth-2020-12-28T20:04:00.000Z-Ravenpuff-2020-12-28T16:58:00.000Z"],"displayName":"RAVENPVFF"}}-->

- @Cwmhiraeth: Links to 2022 pages now added – please let me know if anything seems amiss.
