John Anthony Lee (26 November 1947 – 12 February 2023) was an English footballer who played on the right wing in the Football League for Bradford City and Darlington.[1]

Playing career

He played for Stockton as a youngster,[2] was on the books of Leicester City and Hartlepool United without appearing in the league for either, and also played non-league football for Stockton, South Shields,[1] and Goole Town.[3] He also played for Cargo Fleet, Scarborough, and Whitby Town.[4]

Coaching career

After his playing career ended, he went into management at the non-league level, with clubs including Whitby Town,[5] Billingham Synthonia,[6] Gateshead[7][8][9] (two spells), South Bank, Bishop Auckland[10][11][12] (two spells), Spennymoor United[11][13] (three spells), Newcastle Blue Star,[8] Celtic Nation,[14] and Billingham Town.[15]

He also acted as a scout for Darlington when his son Graeme Lee, himself a former league footballer, was their manager.[16]

Tony died on 12 February 2023 due to illness.[17]
