Template talk:US experimental aircraft
This template is a ridiculous, cluttered mess. - I agree, and I'm removing it anywhere I see it. ericg ✈ 06:23, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-05-07T06:23:00.000Z","author":"Ericg","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Ericg-2006-05-07T06:23:00.000Z-Gene_Nygaard-2006-04-20T00:18:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
The brief description of each plane was helpful when it was part of the X-planes page only. gparker 07:02, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-06-29T07:02:00.000Z","author":"Gparker","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Gparker-2006-06-29T07:02:00.000Z-A_mess","replies":["c-Ravedave-2006-09-10T03:26:00.000Z-Gparker-2006-06-29T07:02:00.000Z"]}}-->
- It is part of the xplane pages only. I have restored the template as there is currently no way to get from xplane to xplane. -Ravedave (help name my baby) 03:26, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-09-10T03:26:00.000Z","author":"Ravedave","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Ravedave-2006-09-10T03:26:00.000Z-Gparker-2006-06-29T07:02:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
The article is about planes in the DoD's X-series of aircraft designations (see 1962 United States Tri-Service aircraft designation system), currently X-1 through X-51. There have been other types of experimental aircraft, such as the Chance-Vought/LTV XC-142A. However, the XC-142 is in the Cargo-series; it was intended to be put into eventual production. As all other aircraft in the X-plane list are in the X-series, and the list is fairly long already, I believe it is best to leave the XC-142 off of this list. --BillCJ 03:40, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-10-11T03:40:00.000Z","author":"BillCJ","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-BillCJ-2006-10-11T03:40:00.000Z-X-Series_only","replies":["c-Duccio-2006-10-11T09:55:00.000Z-BillCJ-2006-10-11T03:40:00.000Z"]}}-->
- Agree. // Duccio 09:55, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-10-11T09:55:00.000Z","author":"Duccio","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Duccio-2006-10-11T09:55:00.000Z-BillCJ-2006-10-11T03:40:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
List of experimental aircraft lists US experimental aircraft in the other designation series (XA, XB, etc.) The XC-142 is under the XC category. BTW, the list does need more work, particularly XC and XP. --BillCJ 15:46, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-10-11T15:46:00.000Z","author":"BillCJ","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-BillCJ-2006-10-11T15:46:00.000Z-X-Series_only","replies":[]}}-->
I put a break in at the beginning (and reverted Ericg's edit removing it) because in Netscape, without this break, the text runs over the v.d.e. buttons at the top left. - I saw your edit and was curious because I couldn't reproduce the problem... Which versions of Netscape? Because I thought Netscape used the same rendering engine of Firefox, and here under Firefox the templatre looks ok. // Duccio 02:22, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-01-05T02:22:00.000Z","author":"Duccio","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Duccio-2007-01-05T02:22:00.000Z-Akradecki-2007-01-05T01:14:00.000Z","replies":["c-Akradecki-2007-01-05T03:02:00.000Z-Duccio-2007-01-05T02:22:00.000Z"]}}-->
- I've got Netscape 7 on one of my laptops, and I know others (though a minority) use it as well. My thoughts are to make the template as universal as possible. - It was never assigned. See http://www.designation-systems.net/usmilav/missing-mds.html, near the bottom of the page. That site is well-researched, usually using data released by the USAF on designations. - BillCJ 02:52, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-06-15T02:52:00.000Z","author":"BillCJ","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-BillCJ-2007-06-15T02:52:00.000Z-Honeymane-2007-06-15T02:40:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
