@Aréat: Where did you get this from? I can't find any mention of it anywhere, including at Direct Democracy. I added a source, but I think you may very well be right that no referendum took place this year. There's actually a lot of different sources claiming it when digging on the net, but they seem to always repeat the exact same sentence, so I'm suspecting one source made a mistake some times ago and it got repeated here and there. I'm not sure whether this suspicion is enough to delete the information here, though. If we can't find any better evidence for a relatively modern referendum, then I think we have to assume that this was an error. It would have been a little unusual for a British colony to have had an independence vote too.
