The Africa template has the following code that prevents redlinks in the titles:

Could this be implemented here too please. Thanks AndrewRT(Talk) 23:57, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-01-04T23:57:00.000Z","author":"AndrewRT","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-AndrewRT-2009-01-04T23:57:00.000Z-Redlink_titles","replies":[]}}-->
Central America and the Caribbean are considered part of North America, so I'm confused by the division. Is there any reason it's done this way? Probably some reason. Fixed, replaced North America with Northern America. Hello. In Latin America there's 4 basic regions: North America, Central America, Caribbean and South America. Mexico is the only Latin American country part of North America as a region. This region includes Canada, the US, Mexico and sometimes Greenland, St. Pierre and Miquelon and Bermuda. North America is also a continent we all know that, but it is also the name of a region, there's a lot of sources about it ([1][2][3][4][5] just a little example).
I consider it highly inappropiate to try to "deny" such a region exists, that would be false and incorrect. I will send a wrong message to xenophobic, racist or plainly uneducated people that often hate or just ignore the fact that the term North America is also used for this region of the continent.
On the other hand, it looks kinda strange that only Mexico is listed there because the US and Canada and not part of Latin America, so I don't have any problem if we list Mexico alone without explicitly naming that it belongs to North America, but only after a serious talk because I'm concerned about a bias to exclude or negate the inclusion of Mexico in North America as a region. Thanks. The inclusion of Mexico is not hard to understand. Mexico is a North American country, if you wish to define the term. However, its culture, language, religion and social development aren't that different from those of Central and South America in majority: Mexico uses Spanish language which is also the common language of majority LAC nations. Culturally while modified and differed to some, is still significantly close to their peers like Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia. You can conclude Mexico in the way how Egypt has been defined in the MENA earlier, for example. Personally, I consider Mexico to be a Central American country by culture, but North American country by geographical reason. The first link you give doesn't really prove the point (as their Asian and European regions don't cover the entire area either) but the others do show that this is a common usage for the term North America. However, there are two basic problems to its inclusion in this template. First of all, the wikipedia page North America is about the North American continent, from Canada to Panama. Due to this having a link to that page is confusing, as Central America and the Caribbean are part of North America. Secondly, the divisions in this template are obviously of regions of Latin America and the Caribbean. As North America extends out of Latin America, it can not be a division of Latin America, and thus its inclusion on this list which implies all of North America is part of Latin America is misleading. Is there a better title than Others? All the links prove the point, but thanks for understanding. I also understand the probable confusion you talk about, that's what I said in my previous comment. I think that we could add North America in italics, without linking to the article, or just use a "—" sign. I tried not adding a group name but it looks weird, try it and you'll see. So those are my two proposals, let me know what you think please. Ok I think that we have a third option, we can also add the code for blank space which is   with a ";" after the p (can't add it directly because it shows a blank space) so that way the template won't look weird. AlexCovarrubias( Talk? )15:59, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-07-11T15:59:00.000Z","author":"AlexCovarrubias","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-AlexCovarrubias-2011-07-11T15:59:00.000Z-Chipmunkdavis-2011-07-11T14:33:00.000Z","replies":["c-Chipmunkdavis-2011-07-11T16:14:00.000Z-AlexCovarrubias-2011-07-11T15:59:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Alex"}}-->
The blank space looks the best in my opinion, but if there is a dash needed it should be placed with the <center></center> code, or it is strangely placed to the right. Thanks for your input, if the North America region is going to be removed, I also prefer the blank space. Let's see what other editors say about this, especially editors from Latin America.
