The "Crusader" nickname for Holy Cross teams began in October 1925, after a vote in The Tomahawk, the student newspaper.[1] Accordingly, today I'll be removing "Crusader" from all the Wikipedia articles and links on this template for Holy Cross football teams from 1924 and prior.
Though newspapers had been referring to Holy Cross teams as "the Purple" for years,[2] and as "the Chiefs" since spring 1925, The Tomahawk asserts that this was the college's first official athletic nickname, so there's no need to replace "Crusaders" with anything. Articles will be moved from, e.g., 1905 Holy Cross Crusaders football team to 1905 Holy Cross football team, following the example of, e.g., 1905 Dartmouth football team and 1905 Fordham football team. ```t b w i l l i e`$1.25`18:34, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2021-03-07T18:34:00.000Z","author":"Toll Booth Willie","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Toll_Booth_Willie-2021-03-07T18:34:00.000Z-Not_Crusaders_before_1925","replies":[],"displayName":"t b w i l l i e"}}-->
