I took the liberty to remove 300 m from the template - this distance is almost never contested and not listed on IAAF's all time list [1]. This is listed as a middle-distance event in this box, and a long-distance event in the long-distance article. Which should be altered to make it consistent?
I removed the skiing og shooting from the list. Added on the 35 lb weight throwing event. I note that marathon is excluded from the template, presumably because it is a road race, not track race. If so, why include half marathon? If not, why not include marathon?

It appears that marathon and several other long-distance running events were omitted in error when the template was updated recently. I've fixed the problem.

Many of these events are clearly not Track events: this would be tedious for marathons and half marathons, detrimental to track surfaces for throwing events, and injury-causing for jumping events. Hi. You added weight throw over the bar. Very special competition in Ireland and Scotland. I added that yesterday, as it was twice in Olympics, had world records tracked for it until 1960, and is still occasionally run. User:Montell 74 disputes the add. As the creator of the article for the event, I've got to stand up for it. The article lists its history. Yes it is generally defunct NOW, but take some guidance from WP:NTEMP. We also list IAAF defunct races like the 2 miles here. Many other imperial distances might be valuable to list, but the articles default back to the metric equivalent distances though 100 yards might be appropriate as it has its own article and history. Can someone (Trackinfo?) explain where the difference between those is? They are literally exactly the same distances. The 20000 m link is a redirect to the 20 km page - if there is a difference, the redirects should be changed. --mfb (talk) 23:12, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2016-10-09T23:12:00.000Z","author":"Mfb","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Mfb-2016-10-09T23:12:00.000Z-10000_m_vs._10_km_and_20000_m_vs._20_km.","replies":["c-Trackinfo-2016-10-10T01:35:00.000Z-Mfb-2016-10-09T23:12:00.000Z"]}}-->
The traditional difference is when the number is spelled out fully, it means the race was conducted on a 400 meter running track. When it is abbreviated to kilometers, the race was conducted on on a road course, usually a 2,000 meter or 2,500 meter loop. From a judging standpoint, a track race gets far more scrutiny. Each athlete is seen by each judge every 400 meters at a minimum. On a loop course, they might get seen twice within a lap, averaging every kilometer. Additionally, a track walker needs to make (wider) turns constantly, they barely get 100 meters of a straight before having to turn. On the road, many courses might have a bend but they get to go general straight line for almost 1,000 meters before making a sharp hairpin turn. These factors play differently on different athletes, so records for both versions of the race are kept by the IAAF here and here. Wikipedia matches the formal world system, the way sources report it.
