Premise
Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jane creates a new persona in which she disappears into a monkey costume and is attempting to free herself from a toxic relationship. She encounters a suicidal radio show host, Roy, and they hatch a risky plan to raise finances. Simultaneously, they are being pursued by Jane’s controlling partner, Wade.[1]
The film is produced by Sam Parker, Will Machin, Keagan Karnes, and Tabitha McDonald for Anyway Content, Metro International, and Inspirado.[2]Nina Conti directed the film having written the screenplay alongside fellow comedian and frequent collaborator Shenoah Allen, with the pair also being co-hosts of the podcast Richard and Greta. The plot for the film has been inspired by Conti’s comedy Ventriloquist act she performs with her Monkey puppet.[3] Conti was built a full-size monkey suit by the creature-effects specialist Vanessa Bastyan which she used to do stand-up in it but then also used it for the film.[4]Christopher Guest is an executive producer.[5]
