Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah (born 12 March 1980) is the fifth child of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Queen Saleha.

Biography

Born on 12 March 1980, Pengiran Anak Puteri (Princess) Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah began her formal education at International School Brunei in 1984. She studied a broad range of subjects, including religious studies, progressing through kindergarten, primary, and secondary levels. Following in the footsteps of her older siblings, she continued her studies at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College after passing the primary certificate of education exam in 1990. She then advanced to Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College in Gadong after excelling in the Brunei junior certificate of education exam in 1993 and the GCE Ordinary Level exams in June 1995.[1]

With a keen interest in studying the Qur'an, Hafizah was mentored by Datin Hajah Maliha binti Hanif, the wife of the late Mustajab Shaien. On 21 March 1996, she participated in a Khatam Al-Qur'an ceremony at the Balai Singgahsana, Istana Nurul Iman, alongside her sister, Princess Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah, and her younger sister, Princess Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah. In 2002, she graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration with second-class upper honours from the Universiti Brunei Darussalam at the 14th convocation ceremony, showcasing her dedication to learning.[1]

Upon graduation, Hafizah began her career in the Ministry of Finance, where she represented the government at national ceremonies and attended numerous formal events hosted by the ministry.[1]

Marriage and children

On 20 September 2012, she wed Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Ruzaini (born 18 January 1983), the second child of Pengiran Mohd Yakub bin Pengiran Haji Othman and Hajah Zainon binti Dato Paduka Elias.[2] The wedding festivities came with a 17-gun salute.[3] Present at the wedding is Najib Razak,[4] Rosmah Mansor,[5] Yingluck Shinawatra, Benigno Aquino III, Hun Sen,[4] K. Shanmugam, Musa Aman and Abdul Taib Mahmud were among the ASEAN leaders in attendance.[6]
