Miss You is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film [2] directed by N. Rajasekar and co-written along with Ashok R.[3] The film stars Siddharth and Ashika Ranganath in the lead roles, alongside an ensemble cast comprising of Ponvannan, Jayaprakash, Anupama, Bala Saravanan, Karunakaran, Lollu Sabha Maaran and Sastika Rajendran in supporting roles.[4] The film is produced by Samuel Mathew under his 7 Miles Per Second Productions banner,[5] while the technical crew includes music director Ghibran, cinematographer K. G. Venkatesh, and editor Dinesh Ponraj.[6]
Miss You released in theatres on 13 December 2024.The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences, praising the cast performances (especially Siddharth and Ashika Ranganath), comic timing, background score, story, screenplay, dialogues, climax, and Rajasekar's direction.
Plot
The film opens with Minister Singaraayars's goons threatening Vasudevan alias Vasu, an aspiring director's parents in Chennai, while he is away in Coorg. En route back home, Vasu's car is involved in an accident, orchestrated by the minister's henchmen as revenge for Vasu's complaint against the minister's son, who had committed a murder. Vasu suffers a severe head injury but is rescued to receive timely medical attention. Vasu begins to experience intermittent memory loss, unbeknownst to him. He frequently questions the injustices surrounding him, often leading to contentious situations. Seeking solace, Vasu decides to leave the town and heads to Egmore railway station. There, he befriends Balajambunathan "Bobby", who owns a coffee shop in Bengaluru.
Vasu stays in Bobby's flat, where he meets Subbulakshmi, a bold and audacious auditor. Vasu is immediately smitten with her. After a few chance encounters, Vasu musters the courage to propose to Subbulakshmi. However, she rejects his advances. Bobby advises Vasu to seek his parents' help in winning Subbulakshmi's hand in marriage. Vasu returns home and shows his mother, Subbulakshmi's photograph, but she vehemently refuses to accept her as a suitable match for Vasu. Vasu's friends reveal a tumultuous past between Vasu and Subbulakshmi. They disclose that the two had previously met on a bus, but their encounter had ended in acrimony and Vasu disliked her for her immature behavior. Moreover, the two had also had an altercation after Vasu had accidentally collided with Subbulakshmi's father. Just then, the wedding photographer arrives, handing over an album that reveals a stunning truth: Subbulakshmi was, in fact, Vasu's wife before his memory loss.
Determined to uncover the truth, upon Vasu's insistence his friends, Aravind, Sindhu, and Chals reveal that Subbulakshmi's father, Ramakrishnan, was a close friend of Vasu's father, Rajendran. When Ramakrishnan was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Rajendran persuaded Vasu to marry Subbulakshmi, for which Vasu had reluctantly agreed. However, post-marriage, Subbulakshmi's behavior caused friction between the couple, as they held vastly different opinions. The final straw came when Vasu's friend Tamizh left his eloped fiancée, Keerthi, in Subbulakshmi's care, but her words of consolation prompted Keerthi to return to her father, enraging Vasu. Vasu and Subbulakshmi had once gone to a movie together, but halfway through, they had to return home. Vasu had arranged for an auto to take Subbulakshmi back, but en route, she witnessed a gruesome murder - that of Murali, the son of Vasu's former maid, Jothi. The next day, the news reported Murali's death as an accident. Vasu urges her to report it to the police, but, she refuses, leading Vasu to believe that she doesn't trust him. This perception drives a wedge between them, and Vasu asks for a separation, mentioning that he had married Subbulakshmi solely to fulfill his father's wish.
In the present, Vasu discovers that he has lost two years of his memory following the accident. After learning the truth, he confronts Subbulakshmi about reuniting, but she declines, fearing that he might hate her once he regains his memories. Vasu decides to leave Bengaluru, but Subbulakshmi's friend Sahana intervenes, revealing more about Subbulakshmi's past. After separating from Vasu, Subbulakshmi had been consumed by guilt for being selfish and not trusting her husband. Emboldened, she had reported the murder to the police and filed a case against Minister Singaraayar's son. As a result, Singaraayar and his men have been threatening Subbulakshmi's life. Despite their separation, Sahana requests Vasu to stay with Subbulakshmi and protect her from harm. The court delivers its verdict, and the minister's son is sentenced to life imprisonment, while his friends receive seven-year prison terms. Vasu departs for Chennai.
Upon his arrival, he receives a call from film producer AVR, who invites him to narrate a story to actor Suriya. However, Vasu has forgotten the story. Aravind reminds Vasu that he had shared the entire story with Subbulakshmi earlier. Subbulakshmi travels to Chennai to help Vasu recall the story. At a coffee shop, she begins to narrate the story, and Vasu orders a Bella coffee, which triggers a flood of memories. He recalls his past, including the events leading up to the accident. Overwhelmed with remorse for his past behavior, Vasu seeks forgiveness from Subbulakshmi. She, too, apologizes for her selfishness. Subbulakshmi expresses concern that Vasu might forget her again, but he reassures her that the phone recordings of her narrating the story can serve as a reminder.
The film concludes with the couple sharing a tearful and emotional reunion, embracing each other as they begin anew.

The music and background score is composed by Ghibran.[18] The first single "Dhama Dhama" was released on 5 July 2024.[19] The second single "Sonnaru Nainaa" was released on 21 August 2024.[20][21] The third single "Nee Enna Paathiye" was released on 21 October 2024.[22] The video song of "Akkaru Bakkaru" released on 25 November 2024.[23]
Miss You released in theatres on 13 December 2024.[24] Earlier it was scheduled for 29 November 2024,[25][26] but got postponed to the current date owing to the heavy rain prediction in Tamil Nadu.[27]

Critical response
Miss You received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and audiences, praising the cast performances (Siddharth and Ashika Ranganath), story, comic timing, dialogues, background score, Rajasekar's screenplay and direction and climax.
Abhinav Subramaniam of Times of India rated three out of five stars and wrote "Miss You settles into being that reliable neighborhood cafe — nothing spectacular, but good enough for a casual visit. The kind of film that fits an unplanned movie outing."[29] Avinash Ramachandran of The Indian Express rated 3/5 stars and wrote "Despite the fantastic premise, Miss You is firmly grounded, by design. But it definitely delivers by keeping the smiles coming even if the emotional connection goes missing for long stretches of time."[30]
Anusha Sundar of OTT Play gave two point five out of five stars and wrote "Miss You is a film that you would not regret watching. It is a film about love and how two individuals who deal with contrasting personalities. [...] A few missteps in Miss You are visible, but the film largely tries to be a chirpy tale of love."[31] Shreyanka Mazumdar of News 18 gave 2.5/5 stars and wrote "It’s been a minute since a rom-com like Miss You was made in Tamil. It is not to say the film is rare or great, but it is just one of those old-school rom-coms that harps just on a straightforward story and drama."[32]
Thinkal Menon of The South First gave 2.5/5 stars and wrote "Rajasekar’s Miss You is a decent outing that caters to its target audience. The film partly entertains, thanks to a few engaging sequences between its lead actors and convincing conflicts."[33] Janani K of India Today rated two out of five stars and wrote "Siddharth and Ashika Ranganath impress with their well-rounded performances. Miss You works in parts, primarily due to the funny one-liners delivered by actor Maaran of Lollu Sabha fame. Otherwise, the film glides through a predictable storyline."[34] Bhuvanesh Chandar of The Hindu wrote "Miss You has several novel ideas on paper that fall short of becoming something worth remembering."[35]
