Jan Suraaj Party (transl. People's Good Governance Party) is a political party launched by political strategist Prashant Kishor on 2 October 2024 in Bihar, India.[1]
History
Padyatra
Kishor initiated the Jan Suraaj campaign with a padyatra across every district of Bihar on 2 October 2022.[2] During this tour, Kishor and his team are engaging with local communities, aiming to establish grassroots connections and gather insights for policy formulation. The campaign has three stated goals:[3]
To identify the right individuals at the grassroot level with the help of society and offer them a democratic platform.
In understanding local problems and opportunities on that basis to write priorities of towns and panchayats and make a blueprint for their development.
Prepare a vision document for the next 15 years with suggestions from experts and the community on ten important areas for the development of Bihar as a whole in respect of education, health, employment, economic development, agriculture, industry, and social justice.
Inauguration
The party held its inauguration event on 2 October 2024 in Patna. During the event, Kishor introduced Manoj Bharti as the party's first Working President.[4]
Bihar by-elections 2024
Jan Suraaj Party declared candidates for all fours vacant seats of Bihar Legislative Assembly. The Party has issued tickets to Kiran Singh from Tarari, Sushil Singh Kushwaha from Ramgarh, Jitendra Paswan from Imamganj and Mohammad Amajad from Belaganj.[5] The party failed to win either of the 4 seats however got significant votes on 2 seats, Imamganj and Belaganj. After the election, Kishor said that they had only 10 days to advertise their symbol yet they got 10% votes and he will continue his yatra despite this setback. [6]
