Allen was Florida State's all-time leading rusher with 3,769 yards until Warrick Dunn broke it in 1996.[1] He was a consensus All-American in 1983 after rushing for 1,134 yards with 13 touchdowns.[2]
Allen was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round, with the 35th overall pick, of the 1985 NFL draft.[3] He officially signed with the team on July 25.[4] He played in seven games for the Browns in 1985, rushing eight times for 32 yards, before being placed on injured reserve on October 25, 1985.[5][4] Allen was released on September 1, 1986.[4]
He was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on November 12, 1986.[4] He appeared in two games during the 1986 season, rushing once for three yards.[5]
Allen signed with the Indianapolis Colts on May 11, 1987. He was released on August 31, 1987 before the start of the season.[4]
He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs on October 8, 1987. He did not appear in any games for the Chiefs and was later placed on injured reserve and released.[4]
