Fureru (Japanese: ふれる。, lit. 'Touch') is a 2024 Japanese animated film directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai and written by Mari Okada. It stars Ren Nagase in a leading role, with Ryota Bando, Kentaro Maeda, Haruka Shiraishi, Manaka Iwami, Sarutoki Minagawa, and Kenjiro Tsuda in supporting roles. The film was produced by CloverWorks, and distributed by Toho and Aniplex. It premiered in Japan on October 4, 2024.

Synopsis

Aki Onoda, Ryō Sobue, and Yūta Inohara, are childhood friends who attend the elementary school. They investigate the Shinto shrine in the island cave, where they meet Fureru, a yellow tailed hedgehog, and adopt it as a pet. When they touch each other and hear their inner voices, they are caught by Fureru's magical power within the fur. In the aftermath, the trio notice that they can "no longer hear their inner voices and they are supposed to touch each other." As their hidden power of "touch" becomes clear, their friendship begins to waver. Ten years later, Fureru and the trio move to Takadanobaba in Shinjuku, Tokyo. There, they keep a fashion student Nana Asakawa, and their bodyguard Juri Kamozawa, away from a stalker.

Voice cast

  • Ren Nagase as Aki Onoda, a part-time bartender and Fureru's owner. He and his friends are not well at communicating with others.
  • Ryota Bando as Ryō Sobue, one of Aki's friends and a real estate agent.
  • Kentaro Maeda as Yūta Inohara, one of Aki's friends and a fashion student suffering hang-ups.
  • Haruka Shiraishi as Juri Kamozawa, Nana's bodyguard and Aki's girlfriend.
  • Manaka Iwami as Nana Asakawa, the stalker's victim and a fashion student attending the same school as Yūta. She is named after the real-life actress.
  • Sarutoki Minagawa as Wakita, a university folklorist and the school's main teacher.
  • Kenjiro Tsuda as Kohei Shimada, the school's assistant teacher.

Production and release

The film was revealed in December 2023, with Nagai serving as a director and Okada serving as a writer.[1] The film premiered on October 4, 2024. The theme song "Monotone" is performed by Yoasobi.[2][3]
