"Angeline" is the sixth episode of the first season of the 2022 heartbreak highsoft reboot. Released on Netflix on the 14th of September 2022,[1][2] it was written by Natesha Somasundaram and directed by Adam Murfet and Jessie Oldfield.[3] This episode shows what can happen if you drink too much, and the double empathy problem.
Plot
Quinni (Chloé Hayden) has a long time special interest in the book series Angeline by Rhea Brown (Natalie Tran) and excited to go to a cosplay/book signing event and meet the author. Sasha (Gemma Chua-Tran) decides to join Quinni, even though she planned to go by herself. Things go astray when Darren (James Majoos) announces a BYOB/costume party at Amerie’s (Ayesha Madon) place and Quinni declines in order to rest, Sasha doesn't get it nor try's too. It gets worse when Sasha runs into an old mate and they end up arriving late. On the bus ride home after meeting the author, Sasha ultimately declares that Quinni is preventing her from being a "normal" teenager, it upsets her, and she has a meltdown when she gets home. Darren later checks on her but she isn’t speaking nor does she speak most of the next episode.
Harper is upset to learn she has chlamydia and is nervous to tell Dusty (Joshua Heuston) and Malakai (Thomas Weatherall), she also gets in trouble for her outburst in front of the school, and tells Principal Stacy (Rachel House) she really doesn't want to be suspended.[a] After her outburst no one want’s to talk to her, especially Spider (Bryn Chapman Parish) as he seems mad at her during SLT’s after playing stuck in the mud. A Flashback reveals Harper didn’t want drugs during the music festival, hence what started their argument.
Meanwhile at Amerie’s party Dusty and Malakai come, Malakai initially plains not to drink but it doesn't last long before he starts drinking. Missy (Sherry-Lee Watson) brings a mate and her her brother Jai (Kobie Dee) to the party. Amerie and Dusty start making out and Harper notices this via social media, she goes to the party to stop them from having sex and letting the chlamydia spread by throwing cake at them but Amerie just thinks shes being a bitch. Outside everyone but Amerie and Missy are cheering for Malakai to jump, his drunk and almost jumps, until Jai stops him potentially saving his life. Malakai stays with Missy's family all of next episode.
Reception
Christine Kinori of thereviewgeek.com says “I felt it was unfair for Sasha to insert herself into Quinn’s plans and then get mad over it. She knew that Quinn was excited about the event, she had been planning it for months. [...] I was frustrated when the kids kept cheering for Malakai to jump, is foolishness contagious or something? It was a dangerous situation, I was glad Jai helped Malakai.”[4] Jonathon Wilson of ready steady cut gave the episode a 4.5 out of 5.[5] reelmockery.com gave it a 5.5 out of 10.[6]
