Angela Buxton and Althea Gibson defeated Fay Muller and Daphne Seeney in the final, 6–1, 8–6 to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 1956 Wimbledon Championships.[1] Gibson became the first African American to win a Wimbledon title; she would go on to win the singles title the next year.
Angela Mortimer and Anne Shilcock were the defending champions, but lost in the semifinals to Muller and Seeney.
