Mientres a suya vida esportiva va ganar siet medallas d'oro en os Chuegos Olimpicos de Munich 1972 y establió una cantidat que no estió superada dica l'anyo 2008, cuan Michael Phelps en ganó ueito. Entre 1965 y 1972, Spitz ganó 9 medallas d'oro olimpicas, una d'archent y una de bronce, 5 oros en Chuegos Panamericans, 31 titols nacionals d'os Estaus Unius (Amateur Athletic Union) y 8 titols universitarios (National Collegiate Athletic Association). En estes anyos va establir 26 records d'o mundo individuals y 5 de relleus.

Dimpués d'a suya retirada esportiva se convertió en una personalidat muit conoixida estando a persona mas popular dimpués de l'alavez president Richard Nixon. Spitz sabió aprofitar esta popularidat pa sinyar lucrativos contractos publicitarios per os cuals s'estima que aconsiguió alredor de 7 millons de dólars en dos anyos.

Spitz tubo ofiertas de Hollywood pero esto estió muito menos exitoso que a suya vida esportiva como nadador u os suyos contractos publicitarios. Lo publico estió altament critico con as suyas actuacions en espectáculos y anuncios televisivos y nomás mantenió la suya presencia en os meyos como comentarista esportivo y dimpués s'aluenyó d'a vida publica. Con tot y con ixes reveses, Spitz y a suya esposa Suzy Weiner agora teneban muitos diners, y se dedicoron a navegar como entretenedera. Con o tiempo, ubrió una achencia immobiliaria en Beverly Hills, California que resultó un negocio exitoso y le dio una nueva y prospera perspectiva a la vida d'o ex campeón de natación.
