"To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants" adalah episode seri animasi SpongeBob SquarePants. Episode ini pertama kali ditayangkan di Nickelodeon di Amerika Serikat pada 17 Juli 2009.

Dalam episode ini, celana SpongeBob menyusut karena terlalu lama dicuci. Karena tidak bisa mencari celana kotak yang baru, dia membeli celana bulat. Hal ini membuat teman-temannya tidak mengenalinya.

Plot

SpongeBob mencuci semua celananya dan cangkang Gary di mesin pencuci. Kemudian, Patrick menelpon sangat lama sehingga SpongeBob tidak bisa mengurus cuciannya. Gary hanya mengambil cangkangnya dan membiarkan celana SpongeBob. Ketika SpongeBob memeriksa, semua celananya mengecil. Dia pergi untuk membeli baju baru, tetapi tidak ada celana kotak yang dia bisa beli. Dia memutuskan untuk membeli celana bulat. Ketika dalam perjalanan pulang, SpongeBob bertemu Patrick, tetapi Patrick tidak mengenalinya. Dia juga bertemu Sandy yang bercanda tentang celananya dan Squidward yang pura-pura tidak mengenalinya agar SpongeBob pergi. SpongeBob merasa tidak dikenali dan memutuskan untuk memulai hidup baru.[1]

Squidward mengajarinya cara bekerja yang buruk dan SpongeBob mengikutinya. Tuan Krabs marah kepada SpongeBob jadi SpongeBob menjelaskan bahwa dia bukan SpongeBob SquarePants dengan celana bulat. Tuan Krabs menyuruh SpongeBob melepas celana bulatnya. SpongeBob melepas celananya dan menjadi dirinya yang biasa. Namun, Sandy datang dan memanggilnya SpongeBob Celana Dalam.[1]

"To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants" ditulis oleh Luke Brookshier, Steven Banks, dan Nate Cash, dan disutradarai oleh Alan Smart.[1] Episode ini pertama ditayangkan di Nickelodeon di Amerika Serikat pada 17 Juli 2009.[2]

Episode ini adalah bagian dari perayaan ulang tahun acara SpongeBob SquarePants yang kesepuluh.[3][4] Dimulai dari 17 Juli 2009 pukul 20.00 Waktu Musim Panas Timur, Nickelodeon menayangkan marathon SpongeBob yang berdurasi 50 jam bernama "The Ultimate SpongeBob SpongeBash Weekend".[5][6] Marathon ini dimulai dengan penayangan "To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants".

Pada 21 Juli 2009, episode ini ada dalam DVD dengan nama yang sama,[7] bersama episode musim enam lain yaitu "Squid's Visit", "The Splinter", "Slide Whistle Stooges", "Boating Buddies", "The Krabby Kronicle", "The Slumber Party", dan "Grooming Gary".[8][9][10] "To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants" juga ada dalam DVD musim keempat.[11]

Penerimaan

Episode ini mendapat ulasan positif, begitu pula DVD-nya. Paul Mavis di DVD Talk merespon dengan positif dan menulis "Ada tawaan di 'To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants.'"[8] Gordon Sullivan di DVD Verdict memberi episode ini nilai 5 dari 10 dan berkata "(Episode ini) adalah salah satu isi yang tipis (dalam DVD), dengan lelucon inti yang cukup baik ditangani dengan tidak ada yang mengetahui SpongeBob, tetapi itu berlangsung hanya sedikit terlalu lama."[12] April Pohren di Blogcritics berkata "(Episode ini) asli dan lucu(...)"[13]
