The Finest Hours adalah film Amerika Serikat keluaran tahun 2016 bergenre drama aksi sejarah bencana yang disutradarai oleh Craig Gillespie dan diproduksi oleh Walt Disney Pictures. Skenario film ini merupakan hasil tulisan Eric Johnson, Scott Silver, dan Paul Tamasy, berdasarkan buku berjudul The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard's Most Daring Sea Rescue karya Michael J. Tougias dan Casey Sherman.[7] The Finest Hours dibintangi oleh Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, John Ortiz, dan Eric Bana[8][9][10]

Film The Finest Hours merupakan film kolaborasi kedua Ben Foster dan Eric Bana setelah film Lone Survivor. Film ini dirilis dalam format Disney Digital 3-D, RealD 3D, dan IMAX 3D pada 29 Januari 2016.[11] Film yang menerima beragam kritik dan ulasan, ini berhasil meraup laba kotor sebesar $52 juta, seluruh dunia.

Latar belakang

Walt Disney Pictures membeli hak atas skenario The Finest Hours pada bulan Agustus 2011.[9][12] Paul Tamasy dan Eric Johnson menulis berdasarkan buku dan wawancara mereka bersama para korban selamat (penyintas).[9][13] Bulan Mei 2013, Robert Schwentke sudah dipesan agar menyutradarai film ini.[14] Namun, Schwentke keluar dari proyek ini karena sudah terlanjur mengerjakan The Divergent Series: Insurgent, dan menempatkan Craig Gillespie sebagai gantinya, pada bulan April 2014.[15] Pemilihan pemeran selesai dilakukan pada April sampai Oktober 2014.[15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]

Pengambilan gambar dimulai pada 8 September, 2014 di Quincy, Massachusetts.[23] 27 Oktober mengambil lokasi di Fore River Shipyard di kapal Quincy USS Salem (CA-139)[24] Gambar juga mengambil lokasi di beberapa lepas pantai selatan, kemudian bergerak ke Chatham, Massachusetts pada bulan Desember.[24][25][26] Ditampakkan pula adegan Affleck memainkan piano di ruang konser di Boston[27][27] Desainer produksi Michael Corenblith mengerjakan beberapa keperluan antara lain disain interior dan efek visual.[28][29]

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures sebenarnya akan merilis The Finest Hours pada 15 April 2016 dan 9 Oktober 2015,[30] sampai pemberitahuan final tanggal rilis pada 29 Januari 2016.[11] Trailer film ini dirilis pada 8 Juli 2015.[31] Yang ke-dua, trailer dirilis pada 11 November 2015.[32] The Finest Hours menjadi acara pembuka pada Coronado Island Film Festival pada 15 Januari 2016.[33] World premiere film ini dilakukan di TCL Chinese Theatre di Hollywood, California 25 Januari 2016.[34] Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment juga merilis dalam format Blu-ray, DVD, dan digital download pada 24 Mei 2016.[35]
