Seo Hyun-jin (lahir 27 Februari 1985) adalah Pemeran dan penyanyi asal Korea Selatan. Ia debut sebagai penyanyi utama grup vokal wanita Korea Selatan M.I.L.K pada tahun 2001 dan berlanjut hingga grup tersebut bubar pada tahun 2003. Ia sempat merilis beberapa lagu sebagai penyanyi solo setelah pembubaran grup dan akhirnya beralih ke dunia akting pada tahun 2006.

Hyun-jin melakukan debut aktingnya dalam musikal The Sound of Music (2006), kemudian diikuti penampilannya dalam beberapa drama dan film. Ia dikenal melalui perannya sebagai Oh Hae-young dalam drama komedi romantis Another Miss Oh (2016) yang membuatnya mendapatkan pengakuan lebih luas. Ia juga muncul dalam drama-drama lain seperti Dr. Romantic (2016–2017), Temperature of Love (2017), dan The Beauty Inside (2018).

Kehidupan dan karier

1985–2005: Awal kehidupan dan karier musik

Hyun-jin lahir pada 27 Februari 1985 di Distrik Dobong (sekarang Distrik Nowon), Seoul, Korea Selatan. Ia diambil oleh S.M. Entertainment dan selanjutnya debut sebagai penyanyi utama dalam grup M.I.L.K pada tahun 2001 di bawah sebuah label yang merupakan anak perusahaan SM Entertainment. Namun, grup tersebut gagal meraih ketenaran karena persaingan yang sengit antara grup-grup musik lain sehingga salah satu anggota keluar sebelum akhirnya bubar pada tahun 2003. Setelah M.I.L.K dibubarkan, Hyun-jin mulai menempuh pendidikan tinggi di Universitas Wanita Dongduk dan mengambil jurusan musikologi agar mimpi bermusiknya tetap hidup. Ia juga merilis beberapa lagu tema dan kompilasi SM Town sebagai penyanyi solo.

2006–2014: Transisi ke akting

Pada tahun 2006, Hyun-jin berkesempatan tampil dalam musikal pertamanya The Sound of Music yang ia lihat sebagai titik balik dalam karier aktingnya.[2]

Selanjutnya, ia menjadi peran pendukung dalam drama Hwang Jini (2006),[3] H.I.T (2007),[4] dan film queer Ashamed (2010).[5] Hyun-jin mulai menarik perhatian setelah tampil bagus dalam The Duo (2011) sebagai wanita tomboi yang kemudian menjadi kisaeng.[6][7][8] Ia berperan sebagai penjahat untuk pertama kalinya dalam drama Feast of the Gods (2012) yaitu sebagai koki yang terlalu ambisius dan terjebak dalam persaingan.[2][9][10] Hyun-jin menjadi peran utama dalam dua drama yaitu The King's Daughter, Soo Baek-hyang (2013)[11] dan The Three Musketeers (2014).[12]

Hyun-jin juga sering muncul dalam proyek yang disutradarai oleh sahabatnya, aktris Ku Hye-sun, terutama dalam film pendek The Madonna dan film Magic dimana ia menjadi peran utama untuk pertama kalinya.[13][14]

2015–sekarang: Meningkatnya popularitas

Hyun-jin mengatakan bahwa karakter yang paling mendekati kepribadiannya dalam kehidupan nyata adalah seorang penulis lepas tentang makanan di Let's Eat 2 (2015) serta menambahkan ia "tidak menyadari betapa menyenangkannya syuting drama yang hidup dan lucu."[15][16] Drama tersebut adalah upaya pertama Hyun-jin dalam genre komedi romantis, di mana ia mendapat ulasan bagus dan juga menjadi titik balik kariernya.[17]

Popularitas Hyun-jin semakin naik dengan cepat setelah membintangi drama komedi romantis Another Miss Oh (2016) dan menjadi lawan main Eric Mun. Ia dipuji karena perannya sebagai karakter yang biasa dan manusiawi,[18] berkat peran ini ia berhasil memenangkan penghargaan di Baeksang Arts Awards untuk kategori Best Actress.[19] Pada tahun yang sama, ia bermain dalam drama medis Dr. Romantic bersama Han Suk-kyu dan Yoo Yeon-seok yang ditayangkand di SBS.[20][21]

Pada tahun 2017, Hyun-jin membintangi drama romansa Temperature of Love yang ditulis oleh Ha Myung-hee.[22]

Pada tahun 2018, ia bergabung dalam melodrama fantasi The Beauty Inside yang diadaptasi dari film tahun 2015 dengan judul yang sama. Ia berperan sebagai seorang aktris yang menghabiskan satu minggu dari setiap bulan waktunya untuk hidup dalam tubuh orang lain.[23][24]

Pada tahun 2019, ia berperan dalam drama sekolah Black Dog: Being A Teacher.[25]

Kegiatan lain

Pada tahun 2019, Hyun-jin diakui sebagai pembayar pajak teladan oleh Layanan Pajak Nasional Korea Selatan dan dinobatkan sebagai duta besar kehormatan bersama dengan Lee Je-hoon.[26]
