Radio City Music Hall adalah tempat hiburan terkemuka di Rockefeller Center di New York City. Nama julukannya adalah Panggung pertunjukan Amerika, dan untuk suatu waktu merupakan tujuan wisata utama di kota ini. Bagian interiornya dinyatakan sebagai landmark New York City pada 1978.

Sejarah awal

Kompleks seluas 49.000 m² di midtown Manhattan ini yang dikenal sebagai Rockefeller Center dibangun antara 1929 dan 1940 oleh John D. Rockefeller, Jr., di atas sebidang tanah yang disewa dari Universitas Columbia. Rockefeller mulanya merencanakan sebuah gedung opera di lokasi ini, namun ia berubah pikiran setelah jatuhnya Bursa Saham 1929.

Nama "Radio City" dan "Radio City Music Hall" berasal dari salah satu penyewa pertama kompleks ini, the Radio Corporation of America. Radio City Music Hall adalah proyek Rockefeller, Samuel Roxy Rothafel yang sebelumnya membuka Roxy Theater pada 1927, dan ketua RCA David Sarnoff. RCA telah mengembangkan banyak studio untuk NBC di 30 Rockefeller Plaza, tepat di sebelah selatan dari Music Hall, dan kompleks radio-TV yang memberikan nama kepada Music Hall ini masih dikenal sebagai Studio Radio City NBC.

Pada 15 Januari 2000, Radio City Music Hall menjadi tuan rumah untuk acara olahraganya yang pertama, sebuah pertandingan tinju yang menampilkan juara kelas berat ringan yang tidak terbantahkan, Roy Jones, Jr. yang mengalahkan David Telesco dalam acara utamanya, dan dalam pertandingan sampingan, petinju kelas berat David Izon mengalahkan Derrick Jefferson.

New York Liberty memainkan beberapa pertandingan kandang mereka pada 2004 di Radio City sementara Madison Square Garden sedang direnovasi untuk Konvensi Nasional Partai Republik.
