Octocorallia (juga dikenal sebagai Alcyonaria) adalah kelas Anthozoa yang terdiri dari sekitar 3.000 spesies organisme berbasis air yang terbentuk dari polip kolonial dengan simetri 8 kali lipat. Kelas ini terdiri dari tiga ordo yakni Alcyonacea, Helioporacea, dan Pennatulacea.^[1] Organisme ini memiliki kerangka internal yang disekresikan oleh mesoglea dan polip dengan delapan tentakel dan delapan mesentaria. Seperti halnya semua Cnidaria, organisme ini memiliki siklus hidup yang kompleks termasuk fase motil ketika mereka dianggap sebagai plankton dan kemudian menjadi fase sesil yang khas.

Octocorallia telah ada setidaknya sejak periode Ordovisium, seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh temuan Maurits Lindström pada tahun 1970an.^[2] Penelitian terbaru yang menunjukkan bahwa Pywackia Kambrium mungkin mewakili octocoralia Kambrium^[3] masih diperdebatkan.^[4]^[5]
