Missulena adalah genus laba-laba mygalomorph dalam keluarga Actinopodidae. Ini pertama kali dijelaskan oleh Charles Walckenaer pada tahun 1805,[1] dan merupakan sinonim senior dari Eriodon.[2] M. tussulena ditemukan di Chili, namun sisanya berasal dari Australia.[3] Mereka kadang-kadang disebut sebagai "laba-laba tikus" karena kepercayaan yang kini terbantahkan bahwa mereka menggali liang yang dalam, serupa dengan yang dilakukan tikus. Scotophaeus blackwalli juga disebut "laba-laba tikus", tetapi ukurannya lebih kecil dan tidak berkerabat dekat.

Deskripsi

Laba-laba ini berukuran sedang hingga besar, berkisar antara 1 hingga 3 sentimeter (0,39 hingga 1,18 inci). Mereka memiliki karapas mengkilap dan kepala tinggi dan lebar dengan mata tersebar di bagian depan kepala,[4][5] dan pemintal pendek di bagian belakang perut. Mereka juga menunjukkan dimorfisme seksual. Betina seluruhnya berwarna hitam, sedangkan jantan memiliki warna khusus untuk setiap spesies. Misalnya, laba-laba tikus timur jantan (M. bradleyi) memiliki bercak kebiruan, sedangkan laba-laba tikus berkepala merah jantan (M. occatoria) berwarna kecoklatan atau biru kehitaman dengan rahang berwarna merah cerah.[6]
