Ikatan Ahli Arkeologi Malaysia (IAAM) adalah organisasi profesi yang mewadahi para ahli arkeologi di Malaysia. IAAM didirikan pada 21 Februari 1987 di Restoran Fima Rantei, Jalan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur dan dihadiri oleh 21 orang ahli. Nama Ikatan Ahli Arkeologi Malaysia ini selaras dengan nama organisasi profesi serupa di Indonesia yaitu, Ikatan Ahli Arkeologi Indonesia. Pada tahun kedua berdirinya IAAM, organisasi profesi ini menerbitkan Jurnal Arkeologi Malaysia.[1]

Tujuan

  1. Menghimpun tenaga ahli arkeologi Malaysia untuk membantu perkembangan ilmu dan pengetahuan arkeologi serta mengabdikan pekerjaan arkeologi bagi kepentingan pembangunan budaya kebangsaan.
  2. Mempererat hubungan antara ahli-ahli arkeologi Malaysia.
  3. Mengadakan pertemuan untuk bertukar dan menyebarluaskan informasi mengenai hasil-hasil penelitian dan persidangan kepada ahli-ahli IAAM.
  4. Memberi kesedaran dan mewujudkan cita rasa kepada rakyat Malaysia tentang kepentingan arkeologi.
  5. Mengkaji tulisan-tulisan pakar-pakar arkeologi yang telah lalu dan mencoba menyelesaikan masalah yang timbul.
  6. Mengumpulkan dan menyebarkan informasi tentang kegiatan-kegiatan arkeologi di Malaysia.
  7. Menyelaraskan kegiatan-kegiatan untuk menghindarkan campur tangan pengkaji-pengkaji luar.
  8. Bertukar pendapat dan infromasi mengenai arkeologi dengan negara-negara ASEAN dan negara lainnya di tingkat internasional.
