Ratu Victoria dari Britania Raya menikah dengan Pangeran Albert dari Saxe-Coburg dan Gotha pada 10 Februari 1840. Ia memilih untuk mengenakan gaun pengantin putih yang terbuat dari satin sutra tebal, menjadikannya salah satu wanita pertama yang mengenakan pakaian putih untuk pernikahan mereka.[1][2] Renda Honiton yang digunakan untuk gaun pengantinnya terbukti memberikan dorongan penting dalam pembuatan renda Devon.[3][4] Ratu Victoria berjasa memulai tradisi pernikahan berwarna putih dan gaun pengantin berwarna putih,[5][6] meskipun ia bukanlah anggota kerajaan pertama yang menikah dengan pakaian berwarna putih.[7]
