Gastrodiplomasi

Gastrodiplomasi adalah salah satu bagian dari diplomasi publik yang dilakukan dengan mengenalkan budaya kuliner suatu negara.[1] Istilah ini pertama kali digunakan oleh media The Economist untuk memberitakan keberhasilan pemerintah Thailand dalam menggunakan makanan tradisional mereka sebagai alat diplomasi luar negeri.[2] Gastrodiplomasi umumnya digunakan oleh negara berkembang agar negaranya dapat dengan mudah dikenal dan kemudian membentuk prestise nasional.[3] Gastrodiplomasi dalam praktiknya tidak hanya dilakukan untuk tujuan politis, tapi juga tujuan komersial seperti promosi pariwisata dan produk kuliner lokal. Biasanya dalam gastrodiplomasi, kuliner tradisional dipamerkan melalui jamuan tamu negara, festival kuliner dan saat adegan masak dalam film maupun video. Gastrodiplomasi merupakan instrumen pendukung bagi aktor negara untuk saling mengenal satu sama lain dan memperat hubungan bilateral antar negara.[4] Makanan dipilih sebagai alat untuk membangun identitas nasional karena ia merupakan produk dan cerminan dari kebudayaan suatu kelompok masyarakat.
