Pejabat Eksekutif Tertinggi (Inggris Amerika: chief executive officer atau CEO,[1] Inggris Britania: managing director atau MD),[2] atau disebut pula sebagai Direktur Utama (Inggris Amerika: executive director atau ED, Inggris Britania: chief executive atau CE)[3] adalah jenjang tertinggi dalam perusahaan (eksekutif) atau administrator yang diberi tanggung jawab untuk mengatur keseluruhan suatu organisasi. Seseorang yang ditunjuk sebagai CEO dalam sebuah korporasi, perusahaan, organisasi, atau lembaga biasanya melapor pada dewan direktur.

Tugas

Tugas seorang CEO (Chief Executive Officer; Amerika Serikat) atau MD (Managing Director; Britania Raya) perusahaan ditetapkan oleh dewan direktur atau otoritas organisasi lain, tergantung struktur hukum organisasi. Tugas mereka bisa luas atau terbatas dan biasanya diutamakan dalam delegasi otoritas formal.

Umumnya, CEO/MD bertugas sebagai seorang komunikator, pengambil keputusan, pemimpin, pengelola (manajer), dan eksekutor. Peran komunikator melibatkan pers dan seisi dunia luar, serta manajemen dan karyawan organisasi; peran pengambil keputusan mencakup keputusan tingkat tinggi terkait kebijakan dan strategi. Sebagai pemimpin, CEO/MD memberi saran kepada dewan direktur, memotivasi karyawan, dan menggerakkan perubahan dalam organisasi. Sebagai manajer, CEO/MD mengawasi operasi organisasi setiap hari, bulan, dan tahun.[4]
