Dalatias merupakan genus hiu dalam famili dalatiidae yang telah ada sejak zaman Eosen Tengah. Sebelumnya genus ini dianggap sebagai takson monotipik dengan spesies tipenya yakni Dalatias licha dianggap sebagai satu-satunya spesies, hingga tahun 2022 ketika Malyshkina dan rekan-rekannya mendeskripsikan spesies punah yang berasal dari zaman Miosen Tengah yakni Dalatias orientalis. Spesies tersebut ditemui dari Formasi Duho di Pohang, Korea Selatan.^[2]^[3]
