Daerah jelajah

Daerah jelajah (bahasa Inggris: home range) adalah daerah tempat hidup suatu hewan. Di daerah ini hewan tersebut akan mencari makan dan berpindah dari satu tempat ke tempat lain. Daerah jelajah tidak sama dengan teritori karena hewan teritorial menandai wilayah tertentu sebagai wilayahnya dan akan mengusir hewan sejenis yang dianggap menyusup. Sementara itu, daerah jelajah dapat bertumpang tindih dengan satu sama lain, dan hewan di daerah jelajah tidak akan mencoba mengusir hewan yang lain. Walaupun begitu, dalam daerah jelajah mungkin terdapat hierarki antara suatu individu dengan individu lainnya, dan individu yang tidak dominan akan menjauh dari individu dominan.

Sejarah

Konsep daerah jelajah dapat ditilik kembali ke sebuah publikasi dari tahun 1943 karya W. H. Burt.[1]
