CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics adalah suatu sumber referensi satu-volume yang komprehensif untuk penelitian ilmiah, saat ini berada pada edisi ke-97 (ISBN 1-4987-5428-7 dengan 2670 halaman, 24 Juni 2016, Pemimpin Redaksi William M. Haynes).[1] Terkadang dijuluki 'Rubber Bible' atau 'Rubber Book', seperti CRC yang merupakan kepanjangan dari "Chemical Rubber Company".

Seiring dengan edisi 1962-1963 (3,604 halaman), buku saku (Handbook) ini berisi berbagai informasi untuk setiap cabang sains dan teknik.[2] Bagian dalam edisi tersebut meliputi: Matematika, Sifat dan Konstanta fisika, Tabel Kimia, Sifat Materi, Panas, Tabel Higrometrik dan Barometrik, Suara, Kuantitas dan Satuan, dan Lain-lain. Terdapat subjek prosaik seperti "Antidot Racun", "Aturan untuk Penamaan Senyawa Organik", "Tegangan Permukaan Garam Terfusi", "Persen Komposisi Larutan Anti-Beku", "Percobaan Tegangan Spark", "Alfabet Yunani", "Timbangan Musik", "Pigmen dan Pewarna", "Perbandingan Ton dan Pounds", "Twist Bor dan Steel Wire Gauges" serta "Sifat Atmosfer Bumi pada Ketinggian hingga 160 Kilometer".

Edisi selanjutnya berfokus hampir secara eksklusif pada topik Kimia dan Fisika dan menghilangkan sebagian besar informasi "umum".[3][4]

Selain garis besar buku pegangan dan referensi teknik serta buku teks di hampir semua disiplin ilmu, CRC saat ini juga dikenal sebagai penerbit buku terkemuka yang terkait dengan ilmu forensik, patologi forensik, kriminologi, dan ilmu kepolisian.

Sejarah

CRC Press berasal dari Chemical Rubber Company (CRC), pemasok peralatan laboratorium untuk kimiawan. Pada tahun 1913, CRC menawarkan sebuah manual, Rubber Handbook, untuk mengiklankan produknya. Sejak saat itu, Rubber Handbook menjadi CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, yang terkadang disebut Rubber Bible. Pada tahun 1973, dengan keberhasilan penjualan buku tersebut, perusahaan mengubah namanya menjadi "CRC Press" dan meninggalkan penjualan peralatan laboratoriumnya.

Edisi pertama CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics diterbitkan pada tahun 1914 dan sejak 1949 edisi terbaru diterbitkan setiap tahunnya. Edisi ke-96 terbit pada tanggal 9 Juni 2015.[5]
