Batuan dasar

Tanih dan cebisan batu melitupi batuan dasar di Sandside Bay, Caithness.

Dalam bidang stratigrafi, batuan dasar adalah batu pejal asli yang mendasari permukaan planet kebumian seperti Bumian. Di atas batuan dasar lazimnya ada batu-batuan yang tercebis-cebis dan lapuk dalam lapisan bawah tanah dasar. Adalah penting untuk mengenali di mana letaknya permukaan atas batuan dasar ketika melaksanakan proyek teknik sipil, dengan kaidah ekskavasi, mengebor atau geofisika. Longgokan permukaan boleh menjadi sangat tebal sehingga batuan dasar itu berada ratusan meter di bawah permukaan.[1]

Batuan dasar bisa melapuk di bawah permukaan atasnya untuk membentuk saprolit.

Peta geologi yang cukup padat bisa menunjukkan distribusi berbagai jenis batu, yakni batu yang rentan pada pemukaan seandainya semua tanih atau tumpukan permukaan yang lain dikosongkan.[2]
