August Ferdinand Möbius (UK /ˈmɜːbiəs/, US /ˈmeɪ-, ˈmoʊ-/;[1] Jerman: [ˈmøːbi̯ʊs]; 17 November 1790 – 26 September 1868) adalahs eorang matematikawan dan astronom teoretikal Jerman.

Kehidupan awal dan pendidikan

Möbius lahir di Schulpforta, Saxony-Anhalt, dan merupakan keturunan reformer agama Martin Luther dari pihak ibunya.[2] Ia sekolah di rumah sampai ia berusia 13 tahun, saat ia masuk Kolese di Schulpforta pada 1803, dan belajar di sana, lulus pada 1809. Ia kemudian masuk Universitas Leipzig, dimana ia belajar astronomi di bawah bimbingan matematikawan dan astronom Karl Mollweide.[3]
