Akar papan pada pohon U. laevis

Akar papan, atau dikenal juga dengan banir, adalah akar yang menjorok dan menonjol ke luar menyerupai dinding penopang pohon pada bagian pangkalnya. Akar papan dapat dijumpai di hutan hujan tropika yang rendah seperti pohon kenari dan kempas. Umumnya banir sering ditemukan di hutan rawa dan sangat jarang terdapat di hutan pegunungan.[1] Akar papan ini lebih sering berada pada pohon berakar tegak daripada pohon yang berakar tunggang, dan sering dimanfaatkan masyarakat untuk membuat meja makan atau roda gerobak.[1]
