Abu’l Faraj Al-Isfahani

Kitab al-Aghani

Abu’l Faraj Al-Isfahani adalah pengarang Kitab Al-Aghani (buku nyanyian) terdiri dari 20 jilid.[1] Dia lahir pada tahun (897 dan meninggal saat 967 Masehi.[1] Ketika di Baghdad, dia belajar sastra Arab klasik dan mencatat dengan tekun serta teliti biografi penyair-penyair Arab klasik, nyanyian-nyanyian, anekdot, dan tradisi Arab, sehingga karya itu merupakan sumber sejarah yang amat penting untuk mengetahui kesusastraan Arab klasik.[1]

Silsilah

Abu’l Faraj adalah keturunan dari khalifah Umayyah terakhir, Marwan II dan silsilahnya adalah Abu’l Faraj Ali bin Al-Husain bin Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Al-Haitsam bin Abdurrahman bin Marwan bin Abdullah bin Marwan II bin Muhammad bin Marwan I.[2]
